The kingfisher is a typical fish-eater (piscivore) and is therefore strongly bound to water. Because of their preference for steep walls for breeding, they are often found near flowing water, where steep banks naturally form by erosion. Still water, rich in fish and vegetation, is also a good habitat. The species is common in most of its distribution area, but is threatened with extinction in some areas.
