Kampen is a city in the Dutch province of Overijssel and the capital of the municipality of the same name. The old Hanseatic city is located on the lower reaches of the river IJssel, near its outlet into the IJsselmeer and the Keteldiep. The city is largely located on a river island and can only be reached via engineering works. Until 1932, the city was also located on the Zuiderzee.
Kampen is located in north-west Overijssel and is the largest town in this area. In 2021, the city had 37,595 inhabitants and is the sixth largest city in the province of Overijssel in terms of size. The area of the city is about's 11.39 km². In 2023, the municipality of the same name had about 56,000 inhabitants.
A variant of the Sallands dialect, also called Kampers, is spoken in Kampen.
