Jökulsárlón
And then finally... After driving mile after mile. There he is, the ice lake Jökulsárlón.
According to our travel guide, this is the most beautiful ice lake. And I'm sure you do. How wonderful it was!
In the lake floating of the glacier calved icebergs around, which differ greatly in size, shape and color. The white, light blue and by gravel and volcanic dust gray and black colored icebergs have the most diverse forms.
They are driven by the current or the wind until they hit the bottom of the lake. They break and melt until they are small enough to be transported to the sea by the only 1500 m long Jökulsá a Breiðamerkursandi river (only one tenth of an iceberg protrudes above the water).
On the photo you can see how the ice that is driven into the sea is beaten back on the beach by the surf.
