Lauwersoog is a unique nature reserve in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands, located between the Lauwersmeer and the Wadden Sea. This was once an estuary, but after the closure in 1969, the Lauwersmeer was created, which is now a National Park. The area consists of rough grasslands, marshes and vast expanses of water, ideal for birds such as the white-tailed eagle and the spoonbill. Lauwersoog is also the departure point for the ferry service to Schiermonnikoog and is known for its fishing port. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy various routes, while water sports enthusiasts enjoy themselves on the lake.
