When I still lived in Haarlem, I drove to Scheveningen one Sunday to capture the sunset. The pier had long been on my list, a striking spot with the Ferris wheel and the tower contrasting nicely with the sky. Camera and tripod come along as standard, because when the light is good, I want to be ready.
That evening, it was a hit. The sky colored intensely, with deep shades of orange and red. The water was calm and reflected the colors perfectly. I chose a position where the pier came into focus nicely and waited until the light was at its strongest. No rush, just look and print at the right moment.
At home, the second part began: post-processing. Fine-tuning colors, getting contrasts right, and making sure the image matched what I felt there. When that succeeds, I know the work is finished.
This photo is now available in my shop at Werk aan de Muur. A recognizable piece of the Dutch coast, captured at a moment when everything came together, light, peace and composition.
