The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a predator of the feline family. The scientific name of the species was published in 1758 as Felis onca by Carl Linnaeus. The jaguar can be found in Central America and a large part of South America. Superficially it is very similar to the leopard, but is more heavily built and has a more robust rosette pattern.
