Two dogs, one black and one white symbolizing the alternation of day and night, bite the rod to break it. In the sky, the chariot of the sun appears with the astrological sign of the bull to indicate spring, between April 21 and May 21
Jacopo del Sellaio (1441/2-1493), was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance, active in his native Florence. His real name was Jacopo di Arcangelo. He worked in an eclectic style based on that of Botticelli, Filippino Lippi and Domenico Ghirlandaio. The nickname Sellaio was taken from his father's profession, saddler.
