This painting was inspired by Francesco Petrarch's poems of the same name and, in particular, the image of the Triumph of Love was inspired by Cupid's cart set up in the streets of Florence in 1459 for the tournament in honor of Pope Pius II and sponsored by young Lorenzo de' Medici.
Jacopo del Sellaio (1441/2-1493), was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance, active in his native Florence. His real name was Jacopo di Arcangelo. He worked in an eclectic style based on that of Botticelli, Filippino Lippi and Domenico Ghirlandaio. The nickname Sellaio was taken from his father's profession, saddler.
