I have called this abstract painting Iridescence as it has so many light qualities within it that seem to change the more you look at it. This painting was created in my studio in Central Italy, using a large palette knife to drag layers of paint across the surface and build up a texture. I wanted to finish with yellow and purple which work so well together. But in the meantime the under painting included white, red and shades of green. The process involves both pausing to allow certain layers to dry (where some colours could over mix and create a muddy effect) but deliberately using the palette knife to ridge the paint so that a surface texture starts to build. I also included some acrylic glue containing multi-coloured glitter which creates an interesting additional textured effect but also a shimmer to the surface in places. The final painting is both dynamic at the top and restful at the bottom which is almost reminiscent of a still pool of water.
Born in the South of England I now live half way up a mountain in Umbria, Italy. I work from my art studio looking out over fabulous views of the Italian countryside. I am so happy to share my artwork with you.
