Infinite opportunities - Collage from my Art Journal This art journal page was created in the sign of turning and infinity. The shape of a snail shell symbolises an infinite circle, a circle of life of personal development. The circle starts in the middle (right on the collage) and can continue to fan out like a kind of whirlwind or tornado. I remember using this idea in art school once to draw an infinite line that kept dancing around itself. If you keep dancing and keep exploring, new things naturally emerge, new opportunities unfold and you meet new people. In this collage, those new opportunities feel like enlightenment, through the use of colour and the floaty characters you can recognise in the abstract shapes. But of course, everyone is free to give their own meaning to this work. In the background, I painted with acrylic paint in brown, green, blue and ochre on a black background. Over that, I used transparent gel to paste up various images from magazines, such as the flower pattern in the middle of the snail shell. Over that collage, I started painting with blue, pink, purple, red and white and drawing with white, gold and black markers. Highlighting the contours creates an exciting result. The whole thing was then photographed and given a digital filter. This filter ensures that up close (if at a large size) the image has beautiful abstract surfaces and from afar you can see the image in totality.
