This sunflower holds on to the summer that is slowly fading away. Even in its final stage, the flower still shows itself light and vibrant. I wanted to show exactly that contrast: transience, but also vitality.
The image feels both powerful and vulnerable. As if the flower is still holding on to summer, while autumn is already inevitably creeping in. It evokes in me a sense of dignity and cherishing what has been.
By directly scanning the flower itself, the structure of the heart and the thin remnants of petals come out sharp and clear. The interplay of lines and colours makes the flower almost graphic, while retaining the whimsical nature.
This work brings a powerful accent. The warm orange-yellow hues are subtle but give just that touch of energy. Beautiful as a statement piece in a quiet room, where it can act as a ray of sunshine on the wall.
