In this work, titled "In shadow and light", I played with abstraction and recognition to depict a portrait of a young woman. Although the shapes and colours are fragmentary and almost geometric, her face remains recognisable from a side view. This combination of abstraction and figuration invites the viewer to look at the work again and again and discover new details.
The warm tones - orange, red and beige - bring a sense of warmth and intimacy to the portrait, while the dark shadows and tight shapes add tension. The background consists of honeycomb shapes in earth tones, offering a gentle contrast to the expressive lines of the face and hair.
The play between light and shadow, recognition and abstraction, makes this work a reflection on human depth and complexity. Every surface and brushstroke contributes to the whole, just as every aspect of a personality has its own influence on who a person is.
