Impressive view of bend in Fish River Canyon, Namibia. National Park on the border of Namibia and South Africa.
The Fish River Canyon in Namibia is the second longest canyon in the world, after the Grand Canyon in the United States. The gorge is approximately 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and is in some places up to 550 meters deep.
The canyon is located on the lower reaches of the Vis River. This river does not carry water all year round and is not navigable. The water is orange. The canyon starts at the village of Seeheim and ends at Ai-Ais. The river then flows into the Orange River along the border with South Africa.
The 90 km long hiking path through the gorge is one of the most popular hiking trails in Southern Africa.
