These extraordinary waterfalls are Iceland's Hraunfossar, a unique formation where water seeps out from underground lava formations through numerous small streams and flows into the clear blue river below.
The shot was taken in autumn, which is evident from the rich palette of warm colours. Golden yellow, rusty brown and orange leaves adorn the bushes and trees that line the upper edge of the falls, providing a stunning contrast to the cool, turquoise water below. The silky smooth look of the falling water indicates a slow shutter speed, giving a dreamy, serene effect to the scene.
Foreground and background are in perfect harmony. The bushes in the foreground, also adorned in autumn tones, add depth to the composition and subtly lead the eye to the central subject: the rippling waterfalls that seem to spring from the lava rock like hidden springs.
