About ‘House on stilts on reclaimed seabed’ by Theo Felten

Do you see the moon? And the kestrel, do you see it too? Look closely, it sits on the balustrade of the cottage. The 'cottage' is popularly called the drowning cottage. In reality, it is an observation post of the Forestry Commission. The post is called 'De Kalkman' and stands on the Engelmansplaat, a higher part of the Wadden Sea between Ameland and Schiermonnikoog that falls dry at low tide. In spring and summer, the post is inhabited by volunteers who count shorebirds and welcome interested visitors.
The photo was taken in September when I was lucky enough to sail along to the Engelmansplaat. The boat sails close to the sandbank that has fallen dry before you descend a staircase and wade through the water to solid ground. A special experience to walk around on a piece of the Netherlands that a few hours later is seemingly no longer there. You then walk around this no man's land for a couple of hours, with the De Kalkman being a photogenic object, especially when the waxing moon is just rising and a kestrel is watching you.
A photo like this does tremendously well as a wall-to-wall photo wallpaper or on canvas with Art Frame.
