House numbers 4 and 6 – The beauty of decay by Cindy Mulder

Two abandoned houses, side by side, tell a silent story of the passage of time. Behind house numbers 4 and 6 lies a world in which decay and character merge to create an intriguing scene. The house on the left is closed off by a simple door made of unpainted wooden slats. To the left of it stands a modest gate made of two metal bars, anchored to a concrete post. In front of the door, plants have won their battle against the concrete and are unperturbedly making their way towards the light.

The house on the right presents a striking contrast. The light blue wooden door, featuring a small glass pane with elegant wrought ironwork, bears the marks of years of wind and weather. The lower part is weathered, and to the right of the door, sand-coloured stones are visible where the white plaster has crumbled away. Above the entrance hangs just one silent witness to better times: a spherical white lamp, the only thing still intact.

This photograph captures the poetry of transience. Every detail, from the flaking plaster to the plants growing through the concrete, speaks to the power of nature and the beauty that emerges when time is given free rein.

An atmospheric work of art for lovers of urban exploration, architecture and the aesthetics of decay.

This artwork is ideal for a living room, study or hallway where character and atmosphere are key. It also makes a striking focal point in an industrial, rustic or vintage interior.

The weathered doors, subtle colours and rich textures lend the interior an authentic and timeless feel, inviting you to discover the small details time and time again.
