During the horse lifeboat demonstration on Ameland, 10 sturdy horses pull the lifeboat over the beach and through the surf into the sea with thunderous force.
The demonstration shows that rescuing drowning people and providing assistance to ships in distress near Ameland has a long history. It reminds of earlier times, because nowadays when a ship is in distress, the modern Anna Margaretha sails out of Ameland harbor at high speed. The demonstration starts from the boathouse at the maritime center "Abraham Fock" at Oranjeweg 18 in Hollum. The launches will take place on the beach, southwest of Hollum, at the end of the Tjettepad.
