The hoopoe (Upupa epops) is a bird of the family of hops (Upupidae).
A striking feature is the pronounced stench it spreads because, on the one hand, the nest is never cleaned (food waste and manure are left behind) and, on the other, because the female has a gland at the base of her tail, which spreads a heavy stench during breeding season. A nickname for the hoopoe is therefore drekhaan. The hoopoe is an insectivorous meadow bird. The call of the hoopoe sounds like hoep, hoep, and although the sound is not loud, it is still audible from a great distance. (wikipedia)
