In the Hooge Boezem of the Zuid-Hollands Landschap, water is buffered during heavy rainfall. This is how they keep their feet dry in Haastrecht. The bosom is behind the mill. The mill is running again, a part full to show how it used to be. No problem for water birds and meadow birds, as long as this happens outside the breeding season. You can see all the famous meadow birds here. The cycle path leads through this beautiful, wide peat bog area.
The mill and the Hooge Boezem are together a hydraulic monument that has been restored by means. At this spot you can still see how the water from the Vlist was pumped up to the Hooge Boezem. From there, the polder water used to be discharged into the Hollandsche IJssel at low tide.
