About "Holocaust memorial in the historic centre of Berlin"

by Silva Wischeropp

About the artwork

This urban, photographic and abstract detail shot of stones and concrete at the Jewish Memorial in Berlin's Mitte district in Germany was taken in June 2015 with the Nikon D90 camera. The image detail and the clear, graphic composition as well as the emphasis on the material concrete create a remarkable, impressive and abstract Berlin landscape. The motif is ideal for hanging in workspaces and offices.

The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, or Holocaust Memorial for short, in the historic centre of Berlin commemorates the approximately six million Jews who were murdered under the rule of Adolf Hitler and the National Socialists.
The memorial, which was designed by Peter Eisenman, consists of 2711 cuboid concrete steles. It was erected between 2003 and spring 2005 on an area of around 19,000 square metres south of the Brandenburg Gate.
Inaugurated on 10 May 2005, it has been open to the public since 12 May 2005.
