Hockey poster De cirkel – Dutch finals 1970–2026

by Sidney van den Boogaard

Fifty-one half circles on a night-blue sheet, one for every world and European final the Netherlands played since 1970, men and women. Each circle is a shooting circle: the orange dots above the line are the Dutch goals, the open dots below them the opponent's. A striped backline is a final lost, a ring around the circle a shoot-out or penalty strokes, and 'nv' means after extra time. Beside it the year, the tournament, the opponent and the score, from the 1–3 against West Germany in 1970 to the final of 2026. The whole history becomes a calm grid you read up close: the 6–0 against Ireland in 2018, the 6–1 against Germany in 2015, the shoot-outs that went right and wrong. The tally sits at the bottom: 32 of 51 finals won, men 10 of 22, women 22 of 29. For the hockey family, the coach at season's end and the club at an anniversary.

This work is part of the Roll of Honour collection: sports history as a data print. Each print takes one sport and turns its whole roll of honour, from the first edition to today, into one graphic image, every name and number cross-checked against two independent sources.

Independent work, not affiliated with or endorsed by any league, federation, team or athlete; the data comes from Wikipedia and other public sources. A great gift for the fan who knows their sport's results by heart, for the living room, the study or the clubhouse.
