Historic ship flying the Dutch flag in Rotterdam’s Oude Haven by Natalia Gebauer Studio

In this photograph, you can see a classic ship, proudly flying the Dutch flag, moored in Rotterdam’s Oude Haven. In the background, the city’s impressive, modern skyscrapers rise up, whilst the soft evening light casts a warm glow over the water and the quay. A unique detail in this piece is the everyday objects on the deck, such as the washing hanging out to dry, which gives the photograph a very authentic, lively and human feel.

This piece was created during a walk along the historic quays, inspired by the unique way in which Rotterdam’s maritime past and modern city life merge. The moment when the flag fluttered gently in the evening breeze against the backdrop of the modern skyline captured a beautiful contrast.

With this image, I aim to evoke an atmosphere of nostalgia, freedom and the warm dynamism of city life. It tells the story of life on the water in the heart of a bustling metropolis.

In an interior, this photographic artwork brings a characterful, warm and contemporary atmosphere. The combination of the ship’s warm earth tones, the red, white and blue of the flag, and the sleek architecture in the background means this piece fits perfectly into an industrial, modern or maritime-themed interior. A fantastic piece for lovers of Rotterdam and shipping.
