Beautiful walk in the southern Limburg countryside, castles & chateaus visited. Where you imagine yourself in the olden times. This beautiful statue on a sturdy concrete pedestal stood in an old historic baroque garden. A chateau between Belgium and South Limburg. Beautiful piece of the Netherlands a super nice chateau in the middle of nature in a hilly area.
In many ways, Château Neercanne in the extreme southwest of South Limburg is special. In 1947 it was the first building to be purchased by Het Limburgs Landschap. It is still the largest building complex in 2018. The marl-built Château Neercanne is the only terraced castle in the Netherlands. For a long time, the castle and its surroundings were even an 'independent state'. Nowadays it is a living and accessible monument, partly thanks to the long-term lease concluded in 1987 between Het Limburgs Landschap and hotel and catering operator Camille Oostwegel. Since then the culinary facilities in the château and in the adjacent Auberge can be used. Outside, the courtyard and the areas outside the walled garden are open to everyone. Time and again, special events take place in this special place. Tsar Peter the Great was a distinguished guest in 1717. But there was also a special visit in 1991. On December 9, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix offered lunch to all the European government leaders who had earlier held a European Community summit at the Gouvernement on the Maastricht Treaty and the introduction of the Euro.
