Historic aerial photo Groenteveiling Naaldwijk in black and white.

From an inheritance, I got access to quite a few slides. I have digitised all of these. Some of the slides were taken on, around and above the grounds of Groenteveiling Naaldwijk. I have tried to improve the quality of the slides and I have selected one from the total number of black-and-white shots of the auction. This aerial photograph (yes, back then) gives a nice overview of the site at the time. The location was, from around 1926, on the 's -Gravenzandseweg in Naaldwijk. Products were brought in by water in the first years of the auction. Gardeners brought tomatoes, cauliflower, carrots, grapes and so on and so forth to their auction with their Westlander (type designation of the barge) at all times of the year. Loading and unloading was done manually, which was of course hard work. The photo shows the various buildings. The supply hall, the barrel shed, all concepts for the real Westlanders. On the bottom left, just visible are the department stores, greenhouses if you will. Naaldwijk from the air, in earlier times. The Naaldwijk vegetable auction joined the Westland Zuid auction and the Delft - Westerlee auction in 1972. The auction buildings were, almost all of them, demolished. On the grounds of the auction and areas adjacent to it, the residential area Opstal was subsequently created.
