This artwork is a digital adaptation of my own oil painting - an homage to Rembrandt's Portrait of Oopjen Coppit (1634), but with a playful twist.
Instead of Oopjen's face, my 13-year-old cat Bunny shines in her place, clad in the sumptuous wedding dress from the 17th century. The dress, at the time the epitome of luxury and fashion, is thus given a whole new life in this cat portrait full of character.
My cat is a real diva: proud, charming and a tad stubborn. When digitising, I gave her modern sunglasses to add extra sparkle to her character and add a playful twist to the classic painting.
My original oil painting is painted on canvas (50 × 70 cm) and hangs on the wall at my home. This digital version shows up beautifully both in large format on the wall and in reduced form on a stylish postcard.
