The blue harrier is still a very vulnerable bird species especially in the netherlands. This female was the first to try to make her nest in a wheat field. She came as a young bird from a nest that was also protected in Germany and here her landing with material. To take this picture, I was now working with the protectors so as not to disturb her of course. But after placing a shelter tent, it didn't take long and she came to bring nesting material. I never actually got to take this one-off photo again because said was the first Groningen hen harrier with a nest in an agricultural crop. If, like me, you are a harrier fan then you really can't miss this as it is very special. The female is brown as you can see but the male is light grey but except for his wing tips. Four species breed in the Netherlands, all of which are found in agricultural areas.
