'Hell Lane' is one of many 300 year old sunken roadways or 'holloways' - criss-crossing the ancient West Dorset landscape. Sometimes 10 metres deep, used by cattle, carts and people these pathways (holloways) were eroded into the local sandstone both by water/streams, cattle, sheep or us humans going to market. If ever you visit Dorset, these are the most emotive historical walks available!
