Heddal stave church is about an hour's drive east of Gaustablikk. With its impressive wooden construction, three towers and richly decorated facades with crosses and dragon heads, the beautiful church is a spectacular monument of both Norwegian history and craftsmanship.

The church was reportedly built in the 13th century and has since been rebuilt and restored twice. The church is so richly built and decorated that it has been nicknamed "cathedral of wood".
