The Leineschloss and the Leineschlossbrücke are among Hanover's most recognisable landmarks and form a striking ensemble in the heart of the city. The new town hall can be seen in the background.
The Leineschloss is located directly on the banks of the River Leine and looks back on a long and eventful history. Originally built as the residence of the Guelph dukes, it was remodelled several times over the centuries and rebuilt in a modern style after being severely damaged in the Second World War. Today, the Leineschloss is home to the Lower Saxony State Parliament and thus not only symbolises historical significance, but also the political life of the state. Its clear architecture combines historical elements with modern objectivity and gives the building a representative yet restrained aura.
The Leineschlossbrücke spans the River Leine directly in front of the castle and connects the old town with the Calenberg new town district. It is one of the most important bridges in Hanover's city centre and offers an impressive view of the river, the castle and the surrounding riverside areas.
Hanover, the lively capital of Lower Saxony, combines cultural diversity, historic buildings and green oases in a unique way. Characterised by the River Leine, extensive parks and modern architecture, the city offers a balanced mix of urbanity and nature. Sights such as the Leine Castle, the Herrenhausen Gardens and the Old Town tell of an eventful history, while trade fairs, museums and a vibrant city life make Hanover a dynamic and cosmopolitan centre.
