About ‘Hanging baskets’ by Truus Nijland

In the silence of the abandoned coal mine, they still hang there waiting.
Rows of baskets, trapped in steel and chains, like frozen breath in a space that once buzzed with life.
Here, the day did not begin with sunlight but with the clang of metal. Miners walked in, their voices mingling with the scraping of boots on the tiles. They placed their everyday clothes in these baskets, pulled on the chain and watched their daily lives slowly disappear upwards, safely above their heads, as they descended into the darkness.
Each basket carried a story. Of fathers and sons. Of hands black with coal dust. Of sweat mixed with courage. It was a simple system: up for protection, down for trust. Because in the depths, nothing could be taken for granted.
Now it is silent.
The baskets hang motionless, like empty nests in an industrial cathedral. The clinking has fallen silent, the dust has settled. What remains is space and memory.
Memories of labour that warmed the land. Of men who spent their days underground so that the light could shine above ground.
The chains no longer move, but they still hold on to something: time.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
