The rice paddies of Bali, stretching as far as the eye can see, form a harmonious landscape between land and sky. Unlike the famous rice terraces, these rice-growing plains are just as fascinating a sight. The fields are carefully demarcated by irrigation dykes, bearing witness to the traditional "subak" system, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bright green of the rice plants, bathed in sunlight, contrasts with the horizon dotted with coconut palms and small villages. This landscape is an invitation to a slow, soothing discovery of Balinese farming culture.
