Female goosander swims by. A beautiful species of duck. The goosander is a water bird that can be seen here inland in winter, but also in the dunes in the many lakes. The goosander lives mainly on fish and frequently dives underwater to hunt. It has an elongated body and a thin beak with small teeth. With that beak, it can easily grab the fish or small mammals, insect larvae and amphibians it catches. Its wing beat is fast and in flight the goosander looks more like a grebe than a duck. You usually see them flying by in flocks quite low over the water.
