Goliath GP700 on a Tuscan Sunset Road

by Jan Keteleer

When I painted this Goliath GP700, I wasn't only painting a car. I was painting a memory that feels shared, even if I never lived it myself. A dark forest green sedan rolls along a winding dirt road, its round chrome headlights catching the last gold of the day. The light comes low from behind the hills, and I let it slide across the curved hood, the bumper and the glass, as if the evening itself wanted to travel along.

I built the scene with thick, expressive brushstrokes, the loose, visible marks of impressionism, so the road would feel uneven and alive beneath the wheels. Ochre stone walls guide the eye forward. Slender cypresses rise like quiet witnesses. Rolling Tuscan hills fade toward a villa that holds the final glow.

Above it all, the sky shifts from bright gold into deep violet clouds. That contrast moves me. Warmth and shadow belong together, just as departure and homecoming do.

For me, this painting is about the journey rather than the destination. It invites you to slow down, roll down the window, and remember the roads that shaped you. Perhaps we all carry such a road inside us, waiting for golden hour.
