The golden eagle has a length of 80 cm to 93 cm with a wingspan of 1.90 to 2.25 m, making it one of the largest eagles in the Northern Hemisphere. Its powerful legs have long, pointed claws. Its maximum age in the wild is about 25 years, in captivity this bird species can reach about 46 years. The plumage is mostly dark brown, with slightly elongated, gold-colored feathers on the neck. This plumage is the same in both sexes.
