On a walk between Hrafntinnusker and Álftavatn, in the heart of Landmannalaugar, a landscape unfolded that felt almost unreal. A mountain range of ryolite - formed by ancient volcanic processes - outlined itself in layers of yellow, gold and brown. As if the earth had chosen its own palette to give colour to the Icelandic highlands with grand brushstrokes.
The colours seemed to glow in the sunlight and stood out beautifully against the blue sky, in which sheep clouds floated peacefully as silent witnesses of time. The air was clear, the silence intense, interrupted only by the crunch of gravel under hiking boots. Here it felt like the world was in balance - rough and soft, earthy and heavenly at the same time.
This photograph captures not only a landscape, but also a sense of wonder. A reminder of how small you can feel in the grand Icelandic setting - and how beautiful it is.
