Glacier Wall – The Silence of Antarctica by Nanda Bussers

A serene and panoramic view of a massive glacier face on the coast of Antarctica. The photograph captures the immense scale of the polar ice, with deep blue crevasses and textures in the white ice. In the foreground, a carpet of small pieces of pack ice and glacial ice floats in the calm, mirror-like water. The soft, diffused light filtering through the cloudy sky emphasises the subtle shades of blue and the tranquil atmosphere of this remote polar landscape.

Antarctica: A world of silence and light

In 2024, I travelled to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Antarctica. A world that you can only truly understand when you are there yourself.

What moved me most there was the silence. In that endless expanse of ice, wind and light, everything naturally falls silent. As if everything slows down: time, your thoughts, even your breathing. With my camera, I tried not only to show what it looks like, but above all how it feels to be there.

From this journey, I have selected 32 images that, for me, capture the essence of that experience. Images of stillness, space and the fragile power of nature.

I invite you to pause for a moment and let yourself be carried away into that world of silence and light.
