Giraffe by night - Encounter in the glow of the wilderness by Fototante

What an experience it was to be able to get so close to the giraffes. It was the last evening of my Namibia trip. Sitting cosily by the fire, I was able to watch the giraffes as they came to drink. Of course I had my photo equipment with me.

In the darkness of the African night, another world awakens - quieter, more mysterious, but full of life. This picture shows a giraffe, captured in a rare moment: in the night light at a waterhole. Its tall, slender body stands out elegantly against the black background, while fine rays of light emphasise its fur and the contours of its silhouette. It is an image of tranquillity - and at the same time tension, as only the wilderness knows it.

The night in Africa is never completely still. The dry bushes crackle in the distance, an insect buzzes, and the presence of the animals, which become active under the cover of darkness, hovers over everything. The giraffe - often travelling far away during the day - comes to the waterhole in the cooler hours, cautious, attentive, graceful. Their movements are slow, deliberate - a spectacle of slowness. Her gaze remains alert, she seems to sense every sound.

Namibia, with its endless expanse and low light pollution, allows for extraordinary animal sightings at night. Such moments are rare - and precious. Because they show a side of nature that only reveals itself when people become silent.
