Geysir and Strokkur are located in a geothermally very active area in the Haukadalur, a valley in southwest Iceland.
Geysir comes from gjosa, which means 'spouting'.
The Geysir is unfortunately not very active anymore, but a few meters from the Geysir is another geyser, the Strokkur or 'churn', which shoots its water only briefly…
