About ‘General Daendels says goodbye to Lieutenant Colonel Krayenhoff, Adriaan de Lelie, 1795.’
General Daendels says goodbye to Lieutenant Colonel Krayenhoff, Adriaan de Lelie, 1795.
The French army, which had entered the Netherlands at the request of the Patriots, had already advanced to Utrecht when Daendels, general in French service, sent Krayenhoff to Amsterdam. He had to ask the city council to resign, so that a new patriotic regime would be installed before the arrival of the French. That same evening, 18 January 1795, the change of power took place in Amsterdam.
