Dark Geertruidenberg: Amercentrale The Amercentrale is an Essent coal-fired power plant, co-firing biomass, in the municipality of Geertruidenberg. The plant is named after the Amer, at whose source it is located. Units 1, 2 and 3 of the Amer power plant first supplied electricity in 1952. The much smaller, natural gas-fired Donge power plant is located near the Amer power plant. The power plant has been targeted several times by Greenpeace activists who tied themselves to the cooling tower as a protest against coal-fired power. View of the power plant from the fortification wall of Geertruidenberg The clockwork in the power plant has one of the largest dials in the world. The dial is ten metres in diameter and was made by the Dutch company Eijsbouts. The dial is coated with gold leaf.
