Edam is a picturesque town located in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands.

Edam is internationally known for its cheese, which has been produced in the region for centuries. The cheese is known for its distinctive round shape and mild flavour. Traditionally, Edam cheese is covered with a red wax, which not only serves as a protective layer, but also adds to its visual appeal.

Edam used to have a thriving cheese market that was an important part of the town's economy. Although the traditional cheese market is no longer held regularly, visitors can still experience the tradition of the cheese trade through events organised in the town.

Edam boasts well-preserved historical architecture, including picturesque canals, gabled houses and charming streets. The town's historic centre is a lovely place to explore on foot, with its cobbled streets and iconic buildings.

The Carillon Tower, also known as the Speeltoren, is a prominent landmark in Edam. It was originally built in the 16th century and has been reconstructed several times. The tower houses a carillon, a musical instrument consisting of bells, which is played regularly.
