It is not the most famous street in the centre of Rotterdam, the Gapersteeg, which turns into the Vissteeg in the background.
The names recall when the first major expansion of the medieval city took place here in the 17th century. Today, the alley is something of a sampling of architecture from different eras.
The building on the left belongs to the Hogeschool Rotterdam, occupied by the Willem de Kooning Academy. It dates from the 1990s. The name Rotterdam can be read at the top left.
The building in the background also belongs to the Willem de Kooning Academy. It was built in the 1930s as a bank building and survived the bombing of 14 May 1940.
The building on the right is residential tower Our Domain and was completed only recently. Sunlight reflects off the windows of the building and this, together with the stripes of the parking lot, creates an interesting pattern on the pavement.
