Along the edges of the IJsselmeer, Markermeer and the border lakes of Gelderland and Flevoland you will find this characteristic image. An old craft that goes back to the time of the Zuiderzee. By using a low shutter speed, a still image is created with a minimalist character that makes the time seem hushed. The endless view of the IJsselmeer confirms the unique character of the Dutch landscape. A photo that will look great in high quality as large print photo wallpaper or styling for office or workplace.
A trap is a so called standing rigging that is attached to poles, which are fixed in the ground. It is not the case that poles were just haphazardly driven into the sea. Often they looked for a place near an IJsselmeer dam or the Afsluitdijk, outside the channel and in water that was not too deep because of the length of the poles.
Then they could start placing the poles and attaching the schutwant. This is a straight net with coarse meshes that is stretched between the poles and runs down to the bottom of the sea. The height of the net therefore varies with the depth of the sea. This net more or less stops the fish and leads them to the traps.
