The Liberty Bridge in Budapest, also known as the "Green Bridge", connects Buda with Pest across the Danube and is one of the city's most famous bridges. It was built in 1896 and named after the liberation of Hungary from the Ottomans in 1686. The bridge impresses with its striking green colour and the beautiful Art Nouveau elements that can be found on both the bridge towers and the railings.
With a length of 333 metres and a width of 20 metres, the Liberty Bridge was the first bridge in Budapest to be open to all traffic when it was completed. The bridge has an important historical significance as it also symbolises freedom and resistance against the Soviet occupation during the 1956 revolution.
Today, the Freedom Bridge is not only an important traffic object, but also a favourite spot for walkers and tourists. The view of the Danube, the Parliament and Buda Castle from the bridge is particularly charming, and at night the bridge shines in golden light, creating a particularly romantic atmosphere.
