Venus of Urbino is a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Titian, made in 1538. The title refers to the goddess of love, but in fact it depicts an ordinary earthly woman, erotically nude, in a domestic setting. The work is in the collection of the Uffizi in Florence.
There has also often been speculation about an even deeper allegorical meaning to the painting, with some linking it to the sexual education of the underage bride of the Duke of Urbino, who was only 11 or 12 years old at the time of the - arranged - marriage in 1534. A slightly different hypothesis is that the painter, by placing his nude in a domestic setting, wanted to indicate that sexual pleasure could also be found within marriage.
Franz von Lenbach (Schrobenhausen, December 13, 1836 - Munich, Bavaria, Germany May 6, 1904) was a German painter from the realist school, best known as a portrait painter.
The painter transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1854. He painted in the Classicism style.
