I’ve always been drawn to the strength and pain etched into Frida’s face. In this piece, I chose to represent her not just as an icon, but as a symbol of multifaceted resilience. Using color pencils and oil pastel allowed me to work delicately with texture, while the mosaic-like effect symbolizes the many layers of her story — trauma, passion, art, politics, and identity.
Each dot, each shadow, was placed like an emotional brushstroke. The vivid flowers in her hair stand out against the soft, neutral background, highlighting her vibrant spirit amidst adversity. This portrait is not merely a tribute, but an attempt to translate her intense presence into a tactile, almost confessional language.
Frida was never a broken woman — she was stitched together with courage. And that’s what I tried to portray — not the pain itself, but the beauty of rebuilding through it."
