The coat of a fox is usually reddish-brown, but can vary from beige to bright red, or from silvery to black, especially in mountainous areas. The darker varieties are sometimes called differently, such as the fire fox or cross fox. There are also albino foxes. The ears are black on the back, as are the 'socks', the lower legs. Some foxes have a white tail tip, and most have at least some white hairs around the tail tip. The upper lip and the muzzle are white. On the cheeks, many foxes have a black or brown 'tear drop'. Some foxes have a steel-grey throat and belly, with a white star on the chest. During the mating season, the female, the nut fox, gets a pink sheen on the underside of her fur.
I spotted this fox in the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes near Zandvoort. The little fox was enjoying the sun while napping.
