High quality (more than 6000*5000) photo of the Fontana di Trevi, the largest and most famous fountain of Rome in Italy.
The fountain is about 26 meters high and about 22 meters wide. It is located on a small square, Piazza di Trevi. The fountain was commissioned by Pope Clement XII. It was drawn by Bernini and built more than 50 years later. The construction lasted from 1732 to 1762. The fountain was built against the back facade of the Palazzo Poli. In the empire it was customary to erect a monument at places where water from new sources entered Rome, so also at this natural spring.
The theme of the structure is the ocean with majestic sea god Oceanus on a shell-shaped chariot pulled to the ocean by winged horses and young sea gods (tritons). One horse is calm, the other reigns supreme. This symbolises the two faces of the sea. In two alcoves on the left and right are the depictions of Abundance and Health. At the top right you can see a depiction of a virgin that a soldier would have designated the place of a spring.
When one stands with one's back to the fountain, closes one's eyes, thinks of Rome and throws a coin into the water with one's right hand over one's left shoulder, one will one day return to Rome.
