Now that autumn has made its appearance and nature is also preparing for the cold spell ahead, we see the colours of various plants and trees changing and the colourful flowers giving way to withered specimens. This is one such example.
It is the bud of a wild carrot (also known as Daucus carota). In summer, this bud is unfurled and we see a beautiful screen of white flowers but in winter, this bud retracts to get through the cold winter months. The seeds then spread again in spring after which this biennial plant is revived.
