About ‘Five trees that give light in the night’ by Susan Hol

While traveling through Normandy, I saw these five trees standing cozily side by side in a row. It was already evening, the sun was low, and the trees were illuminated from behind. It was a misty evening deep in autumn: the trees had lost almost all their leaves. And yet, or perhaps because of that, they seemed to radiate a kind of cheerfulness. That must be because of the branches, which now visibly raise their arms in the air. Together they form a dance in the evening, by the setting sun. And dancing is beautiful in Normandy, where so many lives were lost, where there are such huge fields of white crosses. For I had been there too and then nature, these five trees, offer a moment of comfort, of "life goes on," of nature is beautiful.
To further highlight their beautiful whimsical shapes, their particularity, I digitally edited the photo. The trees now seem to give light themselves in the surrounding darkness.
